Network profile

Hi

We installed vRealize Operations Manager 7.5 a few months ago for use on monitor displays that show the state of the entire server environment.

Has created a dashboard that contains an alert list showing errors that may occur.

Have seen in some cases that Windows servers lose the network profile and set it to public mode. Anyone know how I can monitor this and get notified when this occurs in the alert list?

Thanks for all the help.

I'm using VMware vRealize Operations Management Pack for Container Monitoring In vRealize Operations 7.5, I've sucessfully integrated PKS Adapter and now I need to monitor Kubernetes Cluster. for which i'm using Basic Auth Credential set, but the issue that i'm facing is it is giving the below error again and again. If anyone has faced the same issue, please suggest the fix to this.

Reclaimable hosts dashboard

I stumbled upon this beauty but unfortunately I an running 6.7 and cannot upgrade yet.  Does anyone know if this can be made to work on vrops 6.7?  I cracked open the json and see some of the metrics are named different and some look to perhaps be new to 7.0 so I am not sure if I can edit this to work on 6.7 or not.  Anybody know if there is something for 6.7 or somehow made this work?

Vrops 7.0 for Horizon Client side Source IP monitoring

Is there a way to monitor a clients originating source IP? We have a large environment with a large number of contractors connecting through a MPLS to our two datacenters. We generate monthly reports and would like to have a granular breakdown of the contractors sites in the network performance reports. We don't know the network segmentation where the client source IP's are originating from. There contractors are connecting to many different pools which from a vrops standpoint reporting on the pools would not give the correct network performance data. We looked at Pod Pools which only contains the pooled desktops and Pod Active Session which again users can log into many different pools from the same originating source IP. The goal is to be able to group our corporate networking and our contractors sites in a granular report. Any insight into this would be appreciated.

Get exception while executing action vpx.vmprov.CopyVmFiles N3Vim5Fault8Timedout9ExceptionE Fault cause: vim.fault.Timedout when conducting vMotion

Hey folks,

I'll start by saying I'm relatively inexperienced with vMotion. So, here's what I know.

vCenter 6.7.0.40000

Presiding over some VM Hosts.

Source VM Host:

     ESXi version: 6.7.0

     ESXi build number 13981272

Destination VM Host:

6.7.0

     13981272

What I'm looking to do is migrate machines over, and for the most part, I have been able to move relatively everything just fine. The reason for this migration is that we are abandoning our old VM Host for the moment being.

This is where I may have made a mistake, I moved the vCenter, but had issues (timeouts). So, I cloned my vCenter and moved it. Works fine.

Next, I try to move the last machine, a Windows 10 box with about 200 GB of data on it. When I do the migration for both the compute resource and datastore, it gets to about 30% with a status of "Copying Virtual Machine files". After 40 minutes, almost to the dot, it fails with the titled message of this thread. The error message is from the vCenter vpxd log. I've done this a few times and it fails consistently after 40 minutes.

The error specifically: error vpxd[15439] Get exception while executing action vpx.vmprov.CopyVmFiles: N3Vim5Fault8Timedout9ExceptionE (Fault cause: vim.fault.Timedout --->)

Does anyone have any ideas? The VM Hosts can ping each other, see each other. What else could it be? Or what other logs do you think could be helpful to me? I've been cruising around google, support forums, and I'm not able to find much on this particular error.

Supermetric preview working. Does not work on the object vrops 7.5

Apologises for the length.

I am trying top create a dashboard that shows me how many sockets are in clusters for a given vcenter. Part of this is i want to do the same but only the clusters in the vcenter that has vsan enabled. It is a list of all the vcenters and two colum. The first is the total sockets in the vcenter and the second is the total sockets in vsan clusters in that vcenter

This is to help track licence use. The first part is easy with a supermentric counting the socket property. The vsan one is not working as expected.

The problem is that the property value for a host with vsan enabled is a string value "Enabled" I cant use that in an if supermetric as it needs to be values. the only way i can use the string value is with a where condition

eg from the docs

${this, metric=summary|runtime|isIdle, where = "System Properties|resource_kind_type !contains GENERAL"}

This will show me the is idle metric if the system property resource kind does not contain the text string GENERAL

For me to use an if statement i need a value so i created an SM with the number 100 in it. I then created the above where statement

${this, metric=Super Metric|sm_f5fa94bb-9b29-4ae4-9a34-ad918214e526, where = "Config|vsanEnabled contains Enabled"}

What this should do is return the value 100 where vsan enabled property contains Enabled and not return anything if it does not contain Enabled.

I preview this against a host that has vsan enabled i get

I run it on a host that does not have vsan enabled i get

If i wanted to wrap this up into an if statement so it returns 0 if it is not enabled i can with  ${this, metric=Super Metric|sm_f5fa94bb-9b29-4ae4-9a34-ad918214e526, where = "config|vsanEnabled contains Enabled"}==100?100:0

At this point i am all happy because i can now do an if statement to count all the sockets in the hosts that just have vsan enables so i can track my licence usage. So i thought.

If i add and enable all the SMs and look at the same objects in inventory i get both returning 100. The top one in the below is the same object i previewed that does not have vsan enabled.

Any idea what is happening and why the preview works but the object does not

I'm working on vROps 6.7, i'm getting the alert "NTP Servers are not reachable." very frequently like 25 times a day. There is a kb article for the same i.e. 2144694 which says to restart the casa service of vROps. I did the same but the issue is not resolved. Kindly suggest.

Want to Suppress alerts for child objects when a host dismantled/put into maintenance mode.

Hello Team,

I want to suppress alerts for child objects when a host goes into maintenance mode or host removed from vcenter. Currently i am getting alert from datastore eventhough the host is dismantlled/removed from vcenter. I have created below SM, kindly have a look and let me know.

Count(${adaptertype=VMWARE, objecttype=Hostsystem, depth=1, attribute=runtime|maintenanceState, where = "!contains notInMaintenance"}) || Count(${adaptertype=VMWARE, objecttype=Datastore, attribute=summary|accessible, depth=-1, where = "!contains notInMaintenance"})

I have assigned these to Datastore & Hostsystem ObjectTypes.

Query related to vROPS health check

We have 10 VC servers and we have upgraded 8 to 6.7 version and 2 VC are still running on 6.0 version. We have vROPS in our environment to collect the health report.

After the upgrade 6.7 VC's failed to pull the report and we are suspecting this is because of TLS 1.2 on VCSA 6.7.

We have a management server from where we are running the script. We enabled the TLS 1.2 on the server but still having the same issue.

Kindly let us know the best way to resolve this issue to fetch health report on both 6.0 & 6.7 VC's.

Lincese Requirement for vRealize Application Management Pack & OS monitoring

Sorry if it's been answered or posted somewhere..

We have the vROPs 7.5 Advance license and want to use the new telegraf agent instead of ePOPs to monitor OS resource.

"Monitoring of OS Resources (CPU, Disk, Memory, Network) Telegraf agents gather operating system metrics and monitor availability of remote platforms and applications."

https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/products/vCenter/vmw-vrealize-operations-datasheet.pdf

From what I'm understanding of the new feature with 7.5. I would need to deploy the application remote collector/ Application Management pack then use that to deploy the telegraf agent to the VMs. But from the datasheet is that I need have "enterprise" level license even though I just want to monitor the OS resources. The telegraph agent can do both Monitor OS resources and application monitoring but... we only want to use it to monitor the OS resources.

Can someone shed some light on my confusion of licensing and how the way the new feature works regarding it. Do I really need the Enterprise license to monitor OS resources with telegraf?

build relationships between different adapters objects

Hello community, I have some questions doing custom dashboards on vrops 7.5, can you please point me in the right way?...

Im trying to build an application in a dynamic manner and I m having relationships issues.

I have created one custom group as an application level and some custom groups as an application tiers.

One of this application tier is a custom group with dynamic tagging based selection.

Another application tier is a custom group with object type netapp LUN and with ancestor relationship with app tier VM group so it is been automatically populed. This is done because the netapp adapterś object brings a relationship between LUN and VM.

Now I want to create another app tier custom group with servers of HP adapter but only the ones who current hosts the VM application group, but I cant apply relationship beacuse doesnt exist.

How can build a generic relationship to accomplish this goal?

I would appreciate your help, Im breaking my head looking for possible ways to do it!!!

Regards!

vROPs Mgr 7.5 : vCloud Director Metric : vCloud Virtual machine : VM|Chain Length not populating.

In a vROPs Manager 7.5 environment with the Management Pack for vCloud Director (5.1) installed and configured, the vCloud Director Metrics for vCloud Virtual machine are not populating. Specifically, I want to see the VM Chain Length for each virtual machine within every vApp (deployed and template).

I have checked the view, 'vCloud Director - vCloud Virtual Machine - Summary' and other locations within vROPs UI but unable to pull the data.

Does any one have any insight into what is missing?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Number of vmotions metric in vrops 7.5 is zero for vcenter 6.7

$

Hi all,

Just checking in quickly before I log a call with VMware to see if I've missed some of the recent changes.

We upgraded our vROps from 7.0 to 7.5 a while ago with little or no trouble. A little over a week ago we also upgraded our vcenter from 6.5 to 6.7u2. From that moment, the "number of vmotions" metric on the Datacenter, Cluster Resource and ESX server objects are zero. As if there's no vmotions at all, which is not true.

Has this metric been changed or disabled?

Cheers
