Hi All, 1. Is there an out of the box metric in vRops 6.2 for the RAM Overcommit ratio for a cluster for both powered on and powered off vm's? 2. Is the CPU|Demand|Consumption ratio based on the powered on vm's or all vm's or the equivalent of vCPUs for the amount of CPU Demand in MHz? thanks in advance...
CPU and RAM Overcommit ratio
vROPS Horizon Desktop Agent and WmiPrvSE.exe high cpu
We're running v6.1.0 of the Horizon View Agent which has the vRealize Operations Manager agent built in. With the "VMware vRealize Operations Horizon Desktop Agent" service running we're seeing 4-10% CPU usage (our VDI sessions are two vCPU's) from WmiPrvSE.exe. Using Process Monitor the process is constantly trying to access the C:\Windows\System32\tzres.dll file which looks to pertain to the time zone setting of Windows. When the service is disabled WmiPrvSE.exe goes away and CPU goes back down. Anyone have any thoughts on what the heck is going on? This is way too much overhead for a monitoring tool and looking to just remove all together. We've had this issue from the start (running vROPS 6 within our View 5.3 environment prior to upgrading).
Thanks,

VM tools version report
Hi
Does anyone know if you can get a list of all the VMs and the current version of the tools installed. I am not after the tools running state and status but the version and build. I have a funny feeling this is another metric/property that is collected but not exposed.
upgrading from 6.2 to 6.3 with Endpoint Operations Management and agent token
I'm using Endpoint Operations Management in vROps 6.2. The release notes indicated that I have to upgrade the EP Ops agent to 6.3 prior to the vROps upgrade as the old agent is not compatible with vROps 6.3. They mention two KB's in the release notes.
I'm using KB2146447 because I would like to test the 6.3 agent on several test servers before rolling out to everything. The KB has you enter a string into your web browser to find the agent token. I enter the string for a test server into my browser and it returns information but how do I know what the agent token is. Here is an example of the output:
0100mycomputer.company.comEP Ops AdapterWindows1466789621906-5820434769761082052-20125939034453028921466789621906-5820434769761082052-2012593903445302892falseNO_PARENT1936aa2a-64fe-4ffa-aee7-9337679090470f33c81b-e520-48e5-bcc1-c68ef688500eDATA_RECEIVINGSTARTEDGREEN100.0true5
The KB doesn't indicate what the agent token would be and I cannot tell from the string it returns. Has anybody run through this process and know what the agent token would be?
Super metric help?
Hi again guys,
Just had a quick question while exploring super metrics. I was trying to subtract the 'Total Number of VMs' from the 'Number of Powered on VMs' to get an accurate read of how many VMs are powered off at our datacenters. My end goal is to add this metric/number count into a scorecard. I'm selecting my Datacenter object, then Summary | Total Number of VMs subtracted by Summary | Number of Powered on VMs'. Seems pretty straight forward, however I am not getting any results. When I pull open my scorecard to toss this metric in, I can't even select it from my super metric list. Any advice? I can provide more information if needed.
Thanks!
CPU/Memory graph for a group of VMs
Hi all,
trying to figure out how to graph the CPU/Memory trend for a group of VMs in vROPs 6.2 (Standard license). Is that even possible? I've created the custom group but CPU/Memory graphs are not available in Troubleshooting->All Metrics. Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks!

Unable to clear vROPs alerts
I have an open SR on this but was wondering if anyone in the community has come across this. Our vROps environment is configured for large, it has an HA pair, and three remote collectors. Two additional data nodes were added for the issues below. For some time now we have been unable to clear alerts.
My understanding is that I should be able to clear an alert, but once the check-in occurs, if that metric is still detected, the alert will fire again. However when we try to clear alerts, we either get error messages that vROps is unable to clear the alert, or we will get a successful message, however the alert still shows in the list and it never goes away. I have verified our permissions, and even performed these actions using the built in admin account. Since this SR was opened in May, I have been watching vROps, and it does clear the alerts on its own as the metric is no longer detected.
Troubleshooting
After several log bundles, VMWare thought that when the alerts trigger, vROps is not able to store the alarms in the database, so when we cancel the alert, it fails because the alarms are missing, so VMware basically purged the database. VMWare suggested we add two additional data nodes to our environment, and then perform a disk rebalance. The nodes were added, the disk rebalance was conducted on 6/6, however the DB was not balanced across the ha pair and nodes.
Currently, engineering is still investigating..

Confused by Results of a Report
Hi Chaps,
I've pulled one of the out of box report that shows me CPU/Memory Provisioned, Recommended and Reclaimable per virtual machine in my environment...
However I'm a little confused at the result... how can powered on VMs with 1CPU Core Provisioned, have a CPU recommendation of 1 and CPU Reclaimable value of 1?
I cant reclaim the only CPU it has, can I? there's quite a few of these VMs mentioned in the report!
Thanks for effort

vrealize mail
i want to send email from vrealize operation manager 6.3 ( alert . risk etc.. ) but i cant config email . i am using gmail . how to setup gmail for vrealize @
SMTP Issues
Unable to receive email alerts.
New install of ROPS 6.3 appliance, setup standard email plugin pointing to our enterprise smtp server.
After setting up some alert notifications we see the following from the logs on the receiving SMTP server;
The (client) makes a connection (via load balancer) to SMTP server
(the server) sends 220 banner greeting
Client sends EHLO command
Server sends list of supported ESMTP extensions
Client sends STARTTLS command
Server sends positive response
After negotiation, TLS session is established
Client sends another EHLO (this is required by protocol)
Server sends new list of supported extensions
At this point we don’t know what went wrong. The server is waiting for another command from the client, but doesn’t receive one. After waiting for 5 minutes, the server times out and generates this error message:
421 x.x.x Error: timeout exceeded
There is no indication at the server end of why no further data was received.
vRealize Ops Manager Endpoint Agent
New to vRealize Ops Manager and in the process of deploying the Windows Endpoint Agent. I am at the point where it needs a Username and Password to connect back to the vRealize Operations Manager. I am curious what people are using there? I'd imagine using the Admin account is not recommended but there is no guidance in the documentation. Are most people creating a local account in the Ops Manager? If so what permissions are needed? Please provide as much detail as possible.
Thanks..
vRealize for Horizon Broker Agent Config Issue
I am currently evaluating vRealize for Horizon and when running through the config utility pairing fails and I see the following in the logs:
2016-05-13 10:45:45,370 ERROR [Thread-10] com.vmware.vcops.adapters.v4common.communication.rmi.client.CertificateClient.pair - Failed to pair the certificates from the adapter and broker agent: Given final block not properly padded
I have not been able to find any relevant KB articles and am currently stumped. Any input would be appreciated.
Where is the compatibility guide on the VMware Solution Exchange Web site?
vRealize Operations Manager 6.0 Documentation refers to "the compatibility guide on the VMware Solutions Exchange Web site". According to the documentation, the compatibility guide is available on the VMware Solution Exchange Web site and associates each management pack with the color-code (green, yellow, or red).
However, I could not find such a guide on the VMware Solution Exchange Web site.
Could you tell me where I can find the compatibility guide for the management packs?
Getting a list of all my views and there ID
I have over 90 views that were imported part of a dashboard pack and some of the dashboards are not fully working. Some of the views are saying the view does not exist. I am looking for a way to get the name of the view that is hard coded into the dashboard. I have found that by exporting the dashboard and looking at the code the view that is being used is in ID format
"title": "View Name (test)",
"viewDefinitionId": "de353d12-b159-4ec7-baee-c560cd86d621"
And if i export the view itself it also shows the ID as ViewDef id=
<Content>
<Views>
<ViewDef id="de353d12-b159-4ec7-baee-c560cd86d621">
<Title>Cluster Capacity RAM</Title>
<Description>Tier 1. vRAM Remaining.</Description>
<SubjectType adapterKind="VMWARE" resourceKind="ClusterComputeResource" type="self"/>
<Usage>dashboard</Usage>
<Usage>report</Usage>
<Usage>details</Usage>
<Usage>content</Usage>
Is there a way to get a list of all the view names and corresponding ViewDef id so i can work out what view the dashboard should be using. I dont want to have to manual export every view and copy out the name and ID.
If there is an easier way please let me know.
Virtual Machine View filtered based on Custom Group
Hi All, I am trying to create a view that lists a bunch of metrics for virtual machines, but want to limit it to the virtual machines in a custom group. I have already created multiple custom groups with the required vm's and was going to create multiple views for each of those custom groups, then place all the views into a report. However I can't seem to filter a view based on custom group name? any ideas? I couldn't find a property or metric under the virtual machine object that associates to the group, nor does the custom group expose the name of the group as a property or metric (by adding the custom group object as a secondary subject to the view)

How to stop alerts while ESXi Host is in maintenance mode
Hello,
When we work on ESXi servers that are in Maint.mode (done via vCenter), our vROPS 6.1 still creates alerts because we remove a physical NIC uplink for example. I'd actually expect vROPS to be totally silent about an ESXi server until we take it out of maintenance mode, but nope, it still generates alerts. Why?
Is this expected behaviour7by design or am I doing something wrong ?
If this is by design, would it help if I put the "host object" of that ESXi server inside vROPS (Inventory explorer etc.) in "vROPS maintenance mode". Does that shut up vROPS ?
Regardless, I really expect vROPS to be so clever as to simply ignore all the horrible things we do to an ESXi server in maintenance mode, until it is taken back into production.
In other words, It should be "vCenter maintenance mode = vROPS maintenance mode" so to say.
Example: we removed an Uplink from a dvSwitch and gave it to another dvSwitch while the host was in Maint.mode (via vCenter). Still, we get these kind of alerts.

vROps privilege escalation vulnerability / VMSA-2016-0016
Hello Everyone,
Not sure if you have seen the latest security advisory from VMware but it relates to vRops and a privilege escalation bug, you might want to patch vRops with one of the supplied patches.
