How can I get a report of stats of a group of VMs

Hi,

 

What I want is to get the CPU and Memory demand of a group of filtered VMs, and report them in two charts (i,e one CPU graph showing the cumulative CPU demand of all VMs in that group, and the same for the Memory graph) on vROps

The VMs need to be flitered as VMs where reside on datastores with names ending with "R" (like Datastore1R)

I thought about putting all filtered VMs under respective respurce pool on vsphere server, then get the resource pools' report. I prepared a custom group for those resource pools on vROps. But couldnt succeed to get the reports I need..

 

My vRops version is as follows

 

Version 6.2.0.3528905

Build 3528905

 

Can you help me on that?

vROPS # of Notifications - 3?

I'm using vROPS 6.20a - and I am doing some notification testing, and I'm noticing the following, is anyone else?

 

I have configured a very basic notification rule as such:

and I've noticed that I only get 3 notifications emails, then it just stops sending them. Notice the other fields are blank. It doesn't seem to work the way it's written, or I'm missing something in the docs, I did pull this from the vROPS docs through:

Max Notifications

 (Standard Email Plug-In only) Number of times to send the notification for the active alert Leave the field empty to send only one message per alert
Delay to notify (Standard Email Plug-In only) Number of minutes to delay before sending a notification when a new alert is generated For example, if the delay is 10 minutes and an new alert is generated, the notification is not sent for 10 minutes.  If the alert is canceled in those 10 minutes, the notification is not sent. This reduces the number of notifications for alerts that are canceled in a short period of time

 

So reading this, I would say that based on my setting above, I SHOULD receive an email every 10 minutes, forever until the condition or alert is cleared.

 

Can anyone verify the same/set me straight on this logic behind the notifications?

Can vRealize Hyperic coexist on a host with Operations Manager and still work?

Because I can't seem to get it to work.  I did a standalone install of Hyperic 5.8.5 on a different host in a different cluster and it seemed to work fine.  Now I have it in a different cluster, using different hardware, and I can't get the agents to show up.  The agents seem to install properly, but the vRealize server never sees anything.

Ops Manager is version 6.0.0

We're just testing some things to see how they would work for our customers. We're using some old Dell PowerEdge 2950 servers.  My next thing to try is adding a host to this single-host cluster.  I am thinking there is an issue having both of these on the same host.  Both are .ova deployments.

Values Format in vROPs

Hi everyone,

 

I find the vrops value format is a little bit confusing. For example Latency is : 1,343.4 ms. What that does mean ? 1 ms or 1 s ?

vCenter 5.x vSOM(Operation Manager) licensing problem, please help.

Hello all.

 

Today, I tried to access Operation Manager (ver 5.8) UI but It has error like below.

So, I checked vCenter Licensing tab and found expire license the "Infrastructure Navigator"

also, I tried to access Operation Manager UI admin page, login process doesn't gone..

In this case, I have several questions..

1) How  Operation Manager Solution move from "Infrastructure Navigator License" to "Operations Manager License".

2) Can I fix this issue?

3) If I can't, I should reinstall Operation Manager. May I save previous performance data ?

Notification Event Alert

Hi everyone,

 

I have in my environment many triggered alerts of the same type/definition. Examples :


Notification event - Volume move status: Completed ;

Notification event - Volume move status: In progress,

Notification event - Aggregate Discovered ...........

 

I want to disable some of them and keep the others. The problem is when I open the alert definition they all give the same definition : Notification Event, and I don't know where the sentence that comes after that is written. It is not a symptom either. Any help please ?

Can Hyper-V be monitored via vROPS?

      We've got a hybrid environment here, and I was wondering if there was a management pack or something along those lines that would allow data from Hyper-V to be collected and displayed in vROPS?

How can I make the link in vSphere web client take me to the FQDN of vRealize Operations Manager?

We have vRealize Operations Manager 6.1 installed and vSphere 6.0 update 2.  our vRops server has a certificate issued by our internal CA with its shortname and fqdn name.  A new browser tab to its name works great (no certificate errors).  However in vSphere web client if y ou click on vRealize Operations Manager and then click on Open vRealize Operations manager, it takes you to the ip address of it, https://ipaddress and you have a certificate error.  Where in vSphere web client / vCenter server under the hood can I correct this link so it takes to you the FQDN of the VRops solution instead of the IP address?

Your feedback on NetApp Pack Management for vROPs

Hi everyone,

 

We have installed the NetApp storage PM for vROPs, but we are experiencing problems regarding the collection of data, we don't have all the metrics present in the list and there are metrics that collect values only twice a day and not even everyday.

Does any one had this problem ? and how did you resolve it ?

Super Metric for RAM

Hi,

i need a supermetric that shows me the ratio between two values. If the value is higher than 1, i need a warning.

 

I wan´t to compare the ep-agent values of the pagefile.sys to installed ram. The values are UTILIZATION|MemoryCommitLimit and UTILIZATION|TotalMemory.

Hi,

 

Maybe I'm missing something obvious - but can I create a view that shows me all the hosts and say the vMotion portgroup, NIC's, and NIC policy (as in active and standby)?

vROPS Multi-Node HA Cluster Maintenence

Hello everyone,

 

I have been searching for the proper way to recycle each of the nodes in my 3 node, HA vROPS 6.2 Cluster so that data is not lost during the node reboots.

 

Here is the setup:

 

Master Node

Replica Node

Data Node

 

My question is how do I take a single node out of service correctly (say for a config change/reboot?) so that running adapter instances move to another node and no data is lost during that timeframe?

 

The process I followed was to take the data node out of the cluster first, wait for that the say offline, then reboot it, however I noticed that the adapters that were running on it didn't move and data was lost.

I proceeded to see if this mechanism might only work for the master/replica set (which wouldn't make sense, but I tried anyway) which had the same result, the replica node was taken out of service and rebooted, but the adapter instances on it went to not collecting and I'm getting No Data for any of those vCenter objects and if I got to click on them, thinking maybe the cluster mgmt screen was behind, I get this message when the object loads up "No such resources in shard mapping"

 

Can anyone tell me how I am supposed to recycle a node without data loss? Do i have to move the adapter instances manually for each node I want to reboot BEFORE I offline it from the cluster and reboot? Do i just reboot them to use a "failover" mechanism so that the adapters fail over automatically?

 

I can't find any documentation and calling VMware support is painful for questions like these. If anyone can enlighten me, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

vROPs topology graph with VIN

I want to create a topology graph for an application consisting 7 servers. The topology graph will show all the servers in the application and their connections to other servers (according to VIN). I have created a custom group for the applcation and am using the custom group as the basis for the topology graph.

The Topology graph i created does show the detail i need however its necessary to expand each server and select virtual machine in order to get it to show. Is there any way to force the graph to expand each server and show connected virtual machines by default?

Manager user to create and use "projects"

vROM 6.2 - Report on VM and the Datastore its On

Hi,

 

We are running vROM 6.2  doe sanyone know how to create a custom report on VM inventory with the datastore the VM is currently running on?  RV Tools can do it using the filed called path that shows the path location of the VMX files.

 

I hope vROM can do it as well seeing how robust it is. thank you!
