Deploying the vrops appliance

This doesn't seem like this should be this difficult, but I am having an issue with deploying the vRealize Operations Linux appliance. I downloaded it twice to make sure the ova file is good, and I deploy it and fill in the configuration, and deploy it. No problem. However, when I power it on it comes up showing the ip address I gave it, but the url is https://localhost.localdom, and will not ping or connect. I checked the DNS and forward and reverse lookup are working fine. I see nothing that should be causing this. The other thing I see is the status in the vCenter client is shown as "Available". Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Matt

Permissions - Show EPOS to other users

I'm trying to show EPOS info to other users - when I installed the agents on the machines I used the Admin account when pointing it at vROPS, now in vROPS, only the Admin account can see OS's.

I log into vROPS as Admin and click on Access control, when I click on any of the accounts that I want to give permission to, the Edit button is grayed out.... It is the same for groups.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

My apologies if my question sounds stupid but I am new to VROPS I have added my vcenter to vrops and I am trying to understand how alerts get sent from venter to vrops, I have created a new alarm in vcenter if a guest gets turned off. but the alert is showing on the guests in venter but does not show up in vrops.

Any Help would be much appreciated.

Possible Bug Find - vROps 6.x - When Active Policies exceed 20, drag and drop priority reorder operation fails

I may have stumbled upon a possible bug that I have not seen mentioned anywhere.  When the active policy count in vROps 6.x exceeds 20, forcing the list to a 2nd page, reordering of the policies fails with "DB active policy count doesn't match input policy id count".

I tested this multiple times, and dissociated policies from groups to reduce from 22 active policies to 20 and reorder functionality works.  This was performed several times and the error is repeatable.

vROps_Bug_ActivePolcies.jpg

Workaround:

1) Disassociate policies from groups/objects which you want to be at the bottom of the priority order and save.  Example:  Policy with priority order of 18 needs to be 21.

     - If you need to move a policy up, it is recommended that you reduce the active policy count to <=20 to regain drag and drop reorder capabilities.

2) Associate policies with groups/objects in the order in which you want them prioritized.  They will always be placed at the bottom of the list, above Default Policy.

Uptime metric for the VM

Hi all,

I know that the Uptime metric stands for knowing for how much time the VM has been working without a reboot, but I want to understand what is the best value of this metric ?

If I put the uptime in a scoreboard, when should it be red, yellow and green ?

Thank you.

Trend view for group of VMs showing individual trend lines

$

I am aware of KB 2123145 in which it states it is not possible to run a trend view report on custom groups, however I'm trying to find another way that it might be possible to show a 30 day trend line of a given metric on virtual machines without specifying every VM manually. For example, say I have organized VMs into vSphere folders based on a certain grouping. I want to be able to run a report against that folder and have it show a certain metric and the trend line, but for every child object (VM) of that folder. I'm not looking to summarize an entire group with a trend line, since that would the job of a super metric. No matter what I try, I cannot come up with a way of getting this information from a group without picking and choosing VMs manually to show their trend line.

Has anyone come up with a way around this? I would think this is a fairly common thing to want, yet there doesn't appear to be a readily available and easy way to accomplish this task.

VROPS 6.2 : No Solution available on Administration page on new installation of VROPS 6.2

I have installed vrops6.2 successfully on vCenter . Then did the settings (Creation of username and password, license key etc...) on admin web.

To configure adapter, visited ui web page of vrops https://<hostname>/ui

Navigated to "Solution" page (Administration>solution) to configure adapter.

I am not getting any existing solution (VWMWare vSphere) to configure the adapter. (Attached scree shot)

Can any one please assist here, how to configure adapter to collect data (alerts) from vCenter.

Thanks.

Unable to Create Views

All,

I am new to VMware and vROPS.

From looking at the Virtual Distributed Switch (vDS) under Environment Overview>Custom Groups>vSphere World>Environment>List and filtering on vDS, I see there are six vDS.  I am trying to create a view of these six objects.

Here are my settings for the View

Name and Description:           All vDS

Presentation:                          List

Subjects:                                vSphere Distributed Switch

Data:                                      Properties>Configuration Name

When I select Filter and enter Properties, Configuration|Name, contains, and vDS, I see all vDS switches.

Under Preview Source, I select vSphere World (Custom Groups).

However, I always get “No Data to display”.

Any suggestions?

I've attached screenshot of View and Custom Groups page.

Max Observed Reads per second

Our main cluster is backed by a SAN that we estimate to be capable of approximately 30,000 IOps. vRealize Operations Manager reports a Max Observed Reads per second of 2.2 million IOps and Writes per second of 1.2 million IOps.

Consequently the "Capacity Remaining" dashboard shows that we're only using 1.5% of the capacity of our storage. Not true!

Does anyone know why these statistics are so out of whack?

Can anyone advise how to fix or reset these statistics? Or worse case how to manually set them to a more realistic figure?

Thanks, Liam.

vRealize operation manager polling

Hi,

Is there any possibility to poll data from vROM?

VMWARE world is monitored by vROM but whole IT is monitored by other system.

What if I would like to poll some metrics from vROM? Is it possible somehow? Is SNMP some option?

Multi tenant access shows underlying vcenter stats

We are trying out vRealize on our public cloud offering and are looking to use it as a way to help our clients get the most out of the service.

I have followed some of the guides out there on setting it up  as multi tenanted including the youtube video titled 'How to create a multi-tenant structure in vRealize Operations Manager'

It looks great except for the fact the customers are able to see capacity for the VM's we have assigned to them but also the total capacity for the whole vCenter server through the environment view!

I'm sure I must have an additional permission somewhere  but still fairly new to vRealize if anyone else has come across this before and can point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Permissions on report templates & views

Is it possible to give a non admin user the permission to copy an exsisting view or report templates and/or give him the right to create a new view or report templates without the possibility to delete or modify the default / built-in views and report templates?

The user must be able to delete the views & report templates he created or copied himself.

I tried this but as soon as the user got the delete or modify right he was also able to delete or modify the built-in views and report templates.
