vrops licensing

hey,

can you please help me with the licensing. I don't have the clear picture how the licensed are being consumed by the host in vrops 6.7? Moreover they are consumed only by host or also by datastore, virtual machine, cluster, resource pool etc??

I have gone through some articles but picture isn't clear yet. If anyone could help me that would be great.

Thanks in advance

VSAN Metrics not being collected in vROPS

$

Current build of vROPS 6.7 running on an all-flash vSphere/VSAN 6.7 cluster

We've had some issues with bad SSDs as of late and are trying to increase our visibility in this area.

While the VSAN dashboards have been working well for us, the following sections of the "Troubleshooting VSAN" dashboard appear to have no metrics:

15)  Are we reading from cache?

18)  Is Congestion High?

19)  How often does congestion happen

21)  Is Disk Group running low on capacity (shows 100% which is not true)

22)  Is the disk groups usage balanced (capacity metric is present, but % used metric shows zero/green which is not true)

23)  Any Errors on the Disk Group (always zero)

24)  And Dropped packets on VSAN network? (always zero)

25)  Cache Disks:  Any hardware issues? (both metrics always zero)

26)  Capacity Disks:  Any hardware issues (both metrics are always zero)

The rest of the metrics in the dashboard (1-17) are fine, but we'd like to see the others work too!

Most important to us right now are 25 and 26, which help to identify bad drives.  I ran some PowerCLI to identify the most vulnerable drives but we'd much rather see this in vROPS!

I modified the VSAN adapter to start collecting SMART metrics but this made no impact.

Curious to see of others have had similar experiences and what the resolution may have been.  Thanks!

page break in a dashboard

I'm creating report off of a dashboard.  The report is a pdf that will be emailed.  I've got a bunch of widgets in the dashboard and when the report is created I have widgets split between pages in the report.  Is there anyway to put page breaks in the dashboard of report so that a widget doesn't get split between pages.  It would look so much nicer and read easier if a widget wasn't split in half between pages.

vCenter does not give all the metrics about the cluster on vrops 6.7

Hello.

Faced a problem when creating dashboard in vrops. Cluster object does not collect tags about vCPU to pCPU and others. There are now 2 active hosts and 1 virtual machine on each. It was created more than a month ago.Is there a way to fix it without rebuilding the cluster?

Hi, i have a problem with vRealize operation manager.
We use the appliance in V.6.6.1

The issue i have are. When i logged in as local admin, i can not create a new user who are part of any Object.

At the point where i assign the role & object, I can tick the role or objects i like.
If i press then Finish, only the finish button greyed out, but the user is not created or assigned to anything.

Does anyone have similar behavior ?
Or can someone give me some advice ?

Thx

Missing Disk Capacity Remaining Metrics

I have a dashboard/report that shows powered-off VMs. Among other metrics for the VMs, the report shows Disk Size, Disk Free and Disk Used (a super metric calculated from the other two disk metrics) metrics.

I've noticed that most of the machines report their Disk Free amount, but some do not (screenshot below). I haven't found a reason for this, nor identified any commonality among the machines suffering from this. Any ideas?

The metric for Disk Free is Capacity Analytics Generated|Disk Space|Capacity Remaining (GB). Screenshot below

SDDC MP - vCenter OS Credentials Missing

$

Hello there.

I'm totally new to vrops, so my question is probably stupid, but I can't solve it on my own.

I have 2 node HA vrops 6.6.1 cluster and VCSA 6.5u1e.

I installed SDDC MP 4.0 to test the vcenter appliance monitoring and it says in the SDDC documentation that vSphere adapter must be configured. And it is so in my case, the configuration of vSphere adapter was the first thing I made after the vrops deployment. Now according to the SDDC doc I should provide credentials for the VCSA guest OS:

Configure vCenter Server Health

Before you monitor the health for avCenter Server instance, you have to configure the vCenter Server in

your SDDC health solution.

Prerequisites

Verify that you have configured vCenter Server adapter and is running.

Procedure

1 From the Administration tab, click Solutions.

2 Click the edit gear icon, and click Add.

3 Enter the Instance settings text boxes, vCenter Server IP address, Credentials, and click Close.

4 To edit an object, under the Inventory Explorer, under the adapter instances, select an SDDC Health

adapter instance.

5 Search for a vCenter object and click the edit icon.

6 Edit the required text boxes or click the plus icon to add new credentials.

7 In the Manage Credential, enter the OS credentials.

For a Windows vCenter, enter the OS user name. For example, administrator. For a VCSA, enter the

local OS user name. For example, root, any user with a shell access.

8 Click OK.

Well, there are 2 SDDC adapters in the Inventory Explorer, however I can't see any vCenter objects:

1 (1).png

If I try to edit "vCenter Health" there is no option to provide any credentials:

2 (1).png

However I can see some info about VCSA services in the SDDS dashboard:

3 (1).png

Still I get the "SDDC Config Notification - vCenter OS Credentials Missing, Services may not be discovered for this vCenter. Please Configure the VC HOST OS Credential in Inventory Explorer" notification:

4.PNG

I don't know how SDDS gathered some info about vcenter appliance without credentials provided and I don't know how to specify that credentials

Well, for the test purposes, I had specified 'administrator@sso.domain' credentials for the vSphere adapter and it also has admin privileges for the guest photon OS of VCSA, so may be it is the reason why I can see info about vcenter appliance services, but, I guess I need to provide credentials for SDDC adapter.

P.S. vrops is breaking my mind.

Calculate additional attribute using supermetrics?

$

Hi all,

In order to check some NUMA/vNUMA behaviour I'd like to have an additional metric or atribute on a Host System object, which basically is the number of KB memory per CPU socket. I think these are the Total Memory (KB) and CPU Packages attributes.

However, if I try to divide both, I get a message "Cannot convert aggregated result to number." Do I misunderstand the concept of supermetrics here? Or do I need to modify the adapter to get these attributes?

Thoughts on my NUMA monitoring goals are welcome, too, but I'd mainly like to get an answer on why the expression is not accepted.

Thanks in advance!

The expression is:

${adaptertype=VMWARE, objecttype=HostSystem, attribute=hardware|memorySize, depth=1}/${adaptertype=VMWARE, objecttype=HostSystem, attribute=hardware|cpuInfo|numCpuPackages, depth=1}

VCOPS to VROPS migration

Can we retain the existing data in VCOPS 5.8.4 and use it in VROPs 6.4?

Meaning we migrate the data from 5.8.4 to 6.4?

Also can we do this if from 6.0 VROPs to 6.5/6.6?

Blank page in vROps after login

I'm getting a blank page after login with local credentials on Operations Manager but if I use Active Directory login works fine. I didn't deploy the VM so I'm not sure how they configured it so am at a little loss here on what went wrong. I'm afraid if by some reason the connection with the domain controllers is lost, so vROps will too.

Can it be fixed or do I have to redeploy? vROps otherwise is working quite nicely, it's been very helpful and has been quite customized so I'd hate to start all over.

Thanks!

Capacity Report

Hi Guys,

Need advise on building a dashboard.

We have a shared infra and 4 major departments have their VMs here. I have these VMs's tags updated with respective department name, with which I could create a custom group in vRops as a "Department"

Now how can I create a report in vRops for each department may be like, how many VMs they have and how much resources they are consuming out of the total capacity.
Also wish list is to have a number of VM growth chart for last 1 yer for each of these department.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated!

Snapshot name and creator dashboard

I'm looking forward to create a dashboard which will tell me which VM does have a snapshot and who created it. As well it should provide me the information of the Snapshot name.

For virtual maschines there is a porpertiy for snapshot name and creator. But when I try to add this to a view then I can't select this properties.

I do have a PowerCLI script which does this but I would rather like to have it as a dashboard then running the script every now and then.

Contention

I am looking for a way to poll (SNMP, API, etc.) CPU contention from vRealize. I would like to extract the performance metrics into another tool for analysis and I have yet to find a way to get this data out of vRealize. If this data is accessible a different way or from a different system that would be great as well.

I am fairly new to vmware, So my apologies if this question is easily answered by documentation, etc. I have searched high and low for a solution and have not been able to find anything yet.

I appreciate any help that can be provided.

vROPS 6.7 User does not have any roles assigned

$

Hi there

I have an issue where vCenter Administrators cannot log into vROPS 6.7.
When logging in I get "User does not have any roles assigned".
Upon further investigation the vrops priviliges are not available in vcenter.

However when the user is a member of the vsphere.local admin group the user can log into vRops.

The vCenter install is new, vROPS was existing and has been pointed to new vCenter.

Any ideas as to what is missing?
