Creating vROps custom group of VM based on vSS(vSphere Standard Switch) port group connectivity using vSphere Tags

Hi,

I had to create a vROps custom group of VMs based on port group connectivity information but was not able to do it with vSS(vSphere Standard Switch).

Because vROps supports objects, metrics, relationships for vDS only and not for vSS, I tried to use vSphere Tags as a workaround.

After create tag category > create tags of each port group names > assigned tags to VMs in vCenter,

I was able to create vROps custom group by vSS port group connectivity.

p.s. PowerCLI script which automates vCenter-side steps of this workaround was attached

Hello there,

Is there a way to import data running from vRops version 6.6 to newly built 6.7 cluster. There used to be under solutions for import data in version 6.0 from version 5.8. I dont see that anymore...

Question :

The docs in vROPs 6.6 Help for HA under Analytics Nodes state enabling HA doubles the system's compute and capacity requirements. Reading other VMware docs state that HA just requires an extra VM as the Master Replica. Assuming I have 1 Master and 4 data nodes and enable HA without adding a new VM would my landscape be 1 Master, 1 Replica, 3 data nodes. OR will be as mentioned under the Analytics Nodes section be 1 Master, 1 Replica and 6 data nodes (required to add 3 additional data nodes)? I've read other postings were the author suggests the data node infrastructure doubles and I am assuming they are getting their facts from this same VMware write up in vROPs 6.6 Help as I am. I'd like clarification of the real requirements.

Disk usage alert

All,

vROps does disk usage only in percentage and i would like to do this with disk space left (MB, GB, TB). I would like to create an alert for our file servers based on disk space left.

For example Disk 10 TB @90% full = 1 TB free space. Most servers with 1 TB free space can keep running for a long time. Therefore i don't want an alert @90% full for these type of servers but on remaining disk space.

Can anyone advise of put me in the right direction, on how to setup this in vROps?

Alerts from Remote Collector

We have remote collector setup to cluster vrops and its working fine with data collection, however from the portal I can't see any alerts from RC populating in the Alert menu, only primary site alerts are listed. If I go to remote objects then select objects, I can see alerts there.

How can I see all alerts from Alert menu from secondary sites. Have I missed anything..

Hello,

Can someone explain to me what's the difference between configuring the Workload Policy with Memory Demand or Memory Consumed?

Which one would be more accurate for memory workload?

Thanks!

vROPS Report to Network Share

$

Hi, I am cracking my brain on this one. I am trying to automate a report to a network share. The report is saved as a .csv. However, my challenge is to get it to save to a name of my choice and keep overwriting once a week without the prefix of the date and time and also without the suffix of the source I choose (for example: vSphere World.

Example:

I don't want this...

8-02-18 084018_000284 myreportname vSphere World.csv

8-09-18 084124_000267 myreportname vSphere World.csv

8-16-18 084015_000173 myreportname vSphere World.csv

I want it to be like this...

myreportname.csv

myreportname.csv

myreportname.csv

---

I want the file to keep getting overwritten weekly.

I found something in process of scheduling the report but I am yet to test to see what it does. See below:

Any help would be appreciated.

Problems with getting the Service Discovery Management Pack up and running

$

Hello

For a number of days I've been trying to get this pack to work.   I followed the user guide, and some deployment instructions I've found on the internet.   As I understand it I need to configure a rarely used autohentication method (VGauth) to make it work.   I've configured the default windows user and password (on the service discover adapter, (together with the vcenter credentials), Linux is not important for the moment.       When I check the results in vRealize I see in the "virtual machine relationships" dashboard, I see as status for my test VM the following:

Service discover: succes,  service discovery method: common username, etc..   (these are the most important for debugging).  But there are no services in the view: "list of services running in the selected VM".    When I check the VM I find that in the folder c:\temp a directory called  "VMware-SDMP-Scripts-3597-s_vrealize".   In that folder there are a number of files (*.bat,stderr,stdout,).

The file script_-6951322665996061208_0.stdout, contains a list of the services.

When I take a look in vCenter I see underneath the events of the VM, the following  :

Guest operation Start Program performed

Guest operation List Processes performed

Guest operation Initiate File Transfer From Guest performed

Guest operation Initiate File Tranfer From Guest performed

Guest operation Start Program performed

...

So one could think that it actually works, but I dont get any results in vRealise.   My questions where do I look on my vRealize appliance to see what is going wrong?   (I know there is something in "administration\support\logs\collector\adapters\ServiceDiscoveryAdapter" but it doesn't tell me what I need to know

Where are the result files of a VM stored on the vrops appliance? I'd like to verify if something actually does get copied or not..

I also configued the guest user mapping, but doesn't return anything, and the release of the SDMP 2.1 tell me that guest user mapping doesnt work with vrops 6.7..

Any help will be much  appreciated.   (Too be honest, the SDMP has very poor documentation)

Kind regards

Marino

VM Time Sync method - Can you report on this in vROPs?

Hi All,

I was recently asked to provide a list of all VMs and to show their time sync methods. Shouldn't be a problem I thought, create a view with VM Name, SyncTimeWithHost flag and a few useful identity type fields and away I go. However, I have been unable to find a relevant metric against the VM. I ended up having to create the list with PowerCLI as follows;

Get-View -ViewType virtualmachine | select name,@{N='Time sync with host';E={$_.Config.Tools.SyncTimeWithHost } } | Export-Csv "c:\temp\TimeSyncStatus.csv" -NoTypeInformation

But what I'd really like to do is get this in a vROPs report. Does anyone know if the equivalent metric is revealed in vROPs?

Thanks in advance,

vROPs 6.3.1 OS Upgrade Fails - PAK Manager .pak is not in zip format

$

Hello

We are trying to upgrade vROPs from 6.0.0 to 6.3.1.  We get an error when trying to use the OS upgrade PAK file.

The actual upload is OK, but when the UI goes onto the staging part (I assume this unpacks the .PAK) we get the following error:

PAK Manager: PAK file vRealize_Operations_manager-VA-OS-6.3.1.5571307.pak is not in zip format

So the upgrade cannot continue.  Have tried restarting the vROPs applicance but keep getting the error.  Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Hi everyone...!!

My vCenter was managing certain number of objects. Now I have successfully deleted few objects from vCenter... but still they are visible in my vROps inventory.

Can anyone direct me what the issue can be and how to get it resolved.

Thanks in advance.
