vCops Reports - what does the y-axis represent ?

$

0

I have produced various types of reports and graphs, and do not see a definition of what the values on the y-axis represent.

For instance

A Virtual Machine CPU Diagnose report show numbers on my graph -2.5 going up to 20.

Does this represent %?

A Virtual Machine Disk Write IOPs Forecast report show numbers on my graph -100 going up to 900

Are these disk IOPs from the VM Disk ?

VM IOPs Trend View report show numbers on my graph 0 going up to 3 (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5...)

Are these Per Second?

Virtual Machine Disk I/O Latency Diagnose show numbers on my graph -0.025 to 0.13 (-0.025. 0, 0.025, 0.005,,,)

Are these Per Second?

Also, does anyone know how to reduce the size of the graphs so the labels at the bottom fit?

thanks

Count number of hosts in a custom group

I have created a custom property that has my hosts end of service live date that is imported from out CMDB. From that custom property i have created several custom groups that contain all the hosts from each year ( 2017-2020)

What i want to do is create a super metric that will count the number of hosts in the group so when i create a object list that lists all the EOSL groups i can pick the super metric and show it as an additional column.

vCenter Alarms, Tasks, and Events in vRealize Operations 6.4

We have a few vCenters and they are 5.5 running on Windows with SQL.  We are going to 6.0 U2 with appliances and we are trying to solve something.  All of our hosts syslog to Splunk and the new 6.0 appliances have syslog to Splunk.  Our issue we are trying to solve is seeing if we can get vCenter Tasks, Events, and Alarms to come through.  Without deploying all these extra Splunk VMs to get vCenter data we are trying to see if vRealize Operations already has this data?

I can't seem to find anything in vRealize for Tasks, Events, or Alarms that vCenter creates.  Does anyone know if vRealize Operations logs this information and if so where?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi

I have created a view with 80 columns but when I run the report I only see 51 columns in the csv file and the pdf file fails to even create. Does anyone know who to get around this, it was working prior to the upgrade from VRops 6.0.

Disable vROPS alerts on certain objects

Good morning,

I am in the process of upgrading several ESXi hosts in my environment. They are all managed by the same vCenter but they are spread across multiple virtual data-centers and clusters.

Problem statement:

Every time I reboot one of these hosts, i get a vROPS alert which triggers an email to our operations team. They have asked me to suppress the alerts on these objects while i am in the process of upgrading the host. Is there a simple way to suppress alerts on multiple host at once?

FYI. I am running vROPS 6.4

Thanks in advance.

Monitoring SQL Server with SQL Plugin

Hi,

i have installed the SQL Plugin from the Solution Exchange to monitor our SQL Server.

I have one issue or question. Depends on how you interpret it.

I have a lot of messages that the service is down. But it is not the case. One minute later, i get the message that the service is up and running.

It looks like this in the graph.

I have checked the service and it was up and running at the time i receive the message. I didn´t have any idea why an whats going on. I could change the symptom defenition wait cycle, but i guess that is not the solution.

Did someone else had seen this before?

vROps Community Members:

Blue Medora is currently developing a new VMware vRealize Operations Management Pack for Hadoop.  We plan to release the vROps MP for Hadoop in late Q4/16.

If vROps integration with Hadoop is something that is relevant to you, Blue Medora's product management team is very interested in talking to you about what aspects of Hadoop integration you like to see surfaced in vROps, which specific aspects of Hadoop your organization most commonly leverages, as well as any specific troubleshooting / diagnostic use cases you have around integration Hadoop-based metric, alert, capacity, and workload placement information into vROps.

This solution will complement the existing Blue Medora's other database/data-tier focused vRealize Operations Management Packs:

vRealize Alert - Up/Down

I have looked and looked for an answer for this and cannot seem to find anyone that has asked a similar question.

I am trying to create an alert for VM's that are "down" for more than x minutes.  Basically, I am trying to replace other products that already do this for us.  Does anyone know of a way to do this?  I have tried a few things but have been unsuccessful so far.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Increase vROps retention

I'm running vROps 6.3.  I need to increase my retention period of all metrics in vROps (cpu, memory, storage, network, waste, etc.) from the default 3 months to 12 months.  What are all the settings I need to tweak to accomplish this?  Can it all be done in the UI or do I need to do it on the command line as in 5.x?

Thanks!

vROps: Difference between Maintenance Schedule and Track Usage?

$

We're currently on vROps 6.3, and I'm working to rightsize our VMs in a meaningful way.  I want to exclude the weekend from capacity calculations (due to AV scanning, maintenance jobs, patching, etc. that can impact utilization, but wouldn't ever affect users; I don't care if AV scanning takes an additional 20 minutes).

I'm trying to understand the difference between the Track Usage policy and the Maintenance Schedule policy.

Maintenance Schedule says "metrics are not collected and analytics is not calculated during maintenance."

Track usage doesn't have help text.

What is the difference between these two?

Question about reports and deleted VMs

Hi, I am trying to configure a 30 days scheduled report that includes not only the active VMs at the time of the generation, but also the resources that a non present / non existent VM consumed during the analyzed period.

After deleting a VM from vCenter, by default vROps saves its metrics for 360hrs (in case it returns), in that period of time, I am able to list the VM and its former metrics from "Administration > Environment Overview" but not from the vROps standard inventory.

The question is: Is there any chance of adding this information to a custom report?

In the case of this been possible, How can I present it in relation between the former Resource Pool / VM Folder and the deleted VM?

Thank you in advance!!

vROPS Dashboard Templates

What is the added value of using dashboard templates instead of just cloning an existing dashboard? Both options do the same thing and I do not see any differences.

The documentation doesn't show much information about using dashboard templates.

It would be a nice feature if dashboard templates would allow you to modify multiple dashboards based on this template in a single place. For example, adding a widget to the template adds this widget to all the dashboards created from this template.

Cluster Risk assumptions

Quick question:

Is the assumption that if we lose 1 host, then the cluster would be overwhelmed?  This is from the vSphere DRS Cluster Settings Dashboard/ & View in vROps 6.4

I have a cluster with 3 hosts:

CPU Workload %

ESXi1:  43

ESXi2: 66

ESXi3: 53

and

Memory Workload %

ESXi1: 28

ESXi2: 34

ESXi3: 21

However, the CPU % workload says 100%.

vrealize operations manager refresh data (autoswitch dashboards)

Hi,

I have setup vrealize operations manager on our teams large plasma to display information about our virtual machine and i have enabled the autoswitch and its jumping to each dashboard every 30 seconds as i configured it but it doesn't update the data from within the dashboard. Am i missing something here... how do i enable it so it updates the data in it?

Max MV Memory Contention

For some reason, in my single vRealize instance monitoring 1 cluster of 6 hosts running 5,5 u3b, I never see anything but zero for the memory contention counter, which translates into dashboards that are probably somewhat deficient when generating an overview of cluster health. Am I being daft and missing something here, or is this metric simply not being collected for some reason? Other metrics seem perfectly realistic, e.g. CPU and Disk Latency (see attached screenshots).Summery.jpgCluster_Performance.jpg
